What is Aging in Place?

What is Aging in Place?

Aging in place is where an elder lives out their golden years, their current home, retirement community, condo, apartments or vacation home. Retirement is where they want to live out their golden lives.

Aging in place is a process of taking stock of current and future needs, working out the options and developing strategies.

Many matures/seniors may relocate to a retirement residence or even buy a new home before full retirement.

Planning for Aging in place.

  • Plan for aging in place is not a plan for advanced old age or illness

  • It is a portfolio of strategies for maintaining control of environment and quality of life

  • Family members participate in planning have opportunity to voice concerns

  • Work through practical and emotional issues

  • Visualize future roles

  • Learn elders wishes and preferences
